Do you manufacture all your cosmetics and skincare?

95% of our products are hand manufactured in our studio. We do contract our all-natural skincare products from a different US company that formulates especially for us what we sell. But please note, these products have been researched and tested throughly by SMM Cosmetics to ensure quality.  We DO NOT import any product outside the USA. All products whether handmade by SMM or purchased by SMM is made in the USA only. We refuse to offer any products to our customers that we would not use ourselves.  We are committed to bring you best in all-natural goodness!  We do not participate in Animal Testing. We are cruelty-free!

Why are your products so much less expensive than other brands?

We do not have all the overhead or expensive machinery. We are a family owned/operated business in the USA. All of our loose minerals are hand crafted/created, hand jarred and hand labeled. WE WORK A LOT!

Will Southern Magnolia Minerals irritate my skin or make it itch?

The ingredient that causes sensitivity in most mineral makeups is usually the bismuth oxychloride. We DO NOT use Bismuth Oxychloride in any of our loose minerals! Our minerals are all natural and due to the nature of minerals there is no worry about bacteria or your makeup "going bad" or "expiring"!

Are Southern Magnolia Minerals safe for my skin type?

Anyone can wear our mineral makeup! It is great for sensitive skin, problem skin, healing skin and particularly those with Acne and/or Rosacea. It is suitable for all skin types and is ideal for sensitive skin as the titanium dioxide is a natural sunscreen and Zinc is a natural anti-inflammatory, healing & soothing mineral.  We have many customers with Celiac Disease and Lupus, who refuse to use anything but SMMCosmetics!

Is it good for problem skin like acne, rosacea and sensitive skin?

A resounding Yes! The protective and healing properties of our natural minerals help conceal as well as heal problem skin. It is perfect for acne or rosacea prone skin, inflammatory skin conditions, and post-surgical or post-chemical peel skin as the natural minerals can reduce irritation and redness.  As we said earlier, customers with gluten allergies, lupus, celiac disease love our minerals and refuse to wear any other product besides SMMCosmetics.

Does Southern Magnolia Minerals work for mature skin?

Another resounding Yes! The natural luminoscity helps refract light away from lines and wrinkles softening the look of your skin. They offer light as a feather coverage and very oil absorbing. They also hide large pores and wrinkles better. It also leaves a nice natural dewy finish. And are preferred by most women with mature skin.

Are Southern Magnolia Minerals good for dry skin?

Yes! The natural properties of our minerals help retain moisture in your skin. Since our minerals are so versatile, they can be applied wet or dry, with a brush or sponge to provide pure, natural coverage ranging from sheer to opaque. You will love the radiant glow of your skin after using this makeup!

Can I wear mineral makeup if I have allergies to other brands of makeup?

You should be able to wear mineral powders without fear of them breaking your skin out in any way. We have had many delighted customers rejoice in the fact that they can now wear makeup because they discovered mineral powders, when in the past, all other brands caused their skin to have allergic reactions.  We do not use Bismuth in our products.

How long will this product last?

This depends largely on how often you apply your powder and how much you apply. Conservative estimates are as follows:

Foundations:

• a 30 gram size sifter jar that holds 8 grams of powder will last about 5-6+ months;
• A 20 gram size jar that holds 6 grams of powder will last about 3-4+ months;
• A 10g jar that holds 2.8 grams of powder will last about 3+ months;
• A 5g starter jar that holds 1 gram of minerals will last approximately 2+ weeks.

Eyeshadows in the 5 gram starter jar containing 1/2 tsp. of color could last from 1 month to as long as 6 months or longer. 

Please note, these are conservative estimates!  It has been my experience, that mineral makeup last sooooo long because a little goes such a long way. 

Our kits will generally last you 4-6+ months easily! There is no expiration date with minerals! Because it is an inorganic powder there is no risk of spoilage or oxidization.

How is mineral makeup different from "traditional" liquid and stick makeup?

Large companies create liquid, pressed, stick, sponge, and other such makeup by adding fillers, preservatives, waxes, oils, etc. that allow them to make greater profits. They are obviously not concerned about your skin or what ingredients are absorbed into your body. We do care. We provide healthy mineral foundations and powders that contain no dyes, irritants, preservatives, waxes, mineral oil, fillers, gluten, bismuth, etc. Our powders are loose and buff easily into the skin.

Can I use mineral makeup with my other brands of mineral powders?

Yes! It is okay to mix and match powders, as you desire!

Is there a special technique to apply mineral makeup?

Please see our makeup application techniques and tips. Everyone eventually develops their own trademark technique that makes them unique. Just follow some simple instructions for working with powder and you are ready to begin. Experiment and have fun! You are limited only by your imagination when using Southern Magnolia Minerals!
